Rusty Harville began his career in law enforcement as a correctional officer in Tennessee. Gradually promoting through the ranks and realizing the need for increased focus on officer safety, his interest and passion lead him to the training aspect of operations.
He began training others in 1994 as a certified PPCT Defensive Tactics Instructor, instructing hundreds of officers in life
saving tactics. In 2001, Rusty became a PPCT certified Instructor-Trainer, affording him the opportunity to attract a national
clientele, serving agencies throughout the United States. Additionally, he expanded his training to include numerous other
disciplines related to defensive tactics that would further serve both the law enforcement and civilian communities.
Mr. Harville’s law enforcement career was temporarily put on hold after the 9/11 attacks. With a passion for training, he opted
to become a member of an elite group that provided Airport Screener training for the Federal Airport Screeners of the
Transportation Security Administration. It was there that he obtained additional training in areas outside of traditional
correctional / law enforcement operations, areas more closely related to the private security field, such as entry point screening,
x-ray detection, and other contraband detection techniques. Additional terrorism training was received, to include in-depth training
on IEDs (improvised explosive devices) and Explosive Trace Detection. After the rush to train the screeners subsided, Rusty
joined a private security firm in central Florida, rapidly promoting to a sector patrol supervisor. During this time, he gained
extremely valuable experience in private sector security operations.
Mr. Harville rejoined the correctional field in 2004 as a manager and continued to evaluate field operations, placing emphasis on
continued, quality training for employees. In 2007 Mr. Harville left the Public Law-Enforcement arena and currently serves as the
Executive Vice-President for Steel Rain Risk Management Group, Inc.
